I live in silicon valley and work for HP. Silicon valley is very liberal so it is no wonder that Apple and Google support gay marriage. I am sure that there are many gays working in the silicon valley companies. I do not like the idea of companies taking a financial stand in a social issue because they are using money that belongs to share holders that do not share the same views.

I think the stance Apple is taking is no surprise. This is a company that is always looking to the future. Never the reactionary stance, Apple is keen on being the radicals of the computing market with extensively good results in the past decade. To have their own in-house policy of giving benefits to all unions (same-sex or not). If anything, Apple is targeting the future of our country. If liberal-minded parents keep purchasing their products and services, their children will be growing up knowing that format. This is keen to the next generation of our population that will grasp a company like Apple at hand: Automatically looking at the PC market in terms of reactionary-stance politicians on the “right-side” of the spectrum.

Well, I was an apple fan, but no longer. And to be clear, it’s because I’m against gays making a mockery of the sacred union between a man and his wife.

Apple isn’t the only one on my sht list lately, today I learn that the number 1 contributor to the obama campaign is the California State U. Should a taxpayer funded school be donating money to a politician? No.

apple is very lgbt friendly! the human rights campaign has produced a publication called the corporate equality index for the past 7 years, which measures how lgbt friendly a company is. apple has always scored a 100! check it out on page 24 and while you're at it, see how some of your other favorite companies rank. 2009 corporate equality index

I assume this decision came about because of this article, the wording of your comment slightly confuses me.

You’re completely entitled to your view, I just wanted to know if you are opposed to a company taking a stance on a political/civil issue, or if it is the issue itself.

I myself have mixed feelings about companies getting involved as such. I think it could be very dangerous, so I was wondering if that was your reasoning.

I’ve probably bought a hundred thousand worth of mac products in the past five or six years.
I will be replacing all as needed with other products.
Our companies will no longer use apple products.
