1.99 Upgrade Fee for 802.11n Ability on Macs

The basic news is that Apple has been shipping computers for the last few months that have had the hardware for 802.11n support, but that support was blocked by software. With the new Airport Extreme and Apple TV, 802.11n is now an official Apple technology in their products. However, users will have to pay a small fee, $1.99, to download the software that will enable existing Core 2 Duo Macs to make use of their hardware.

Supposedly this is a required practice because Apple is adding features to products they have already sold and accounted for. So, while the original fee was rumored to be $4.99, Apple has heard our cries quite well and lowered it to 1.99. Still rather expensive, but affordable all the same.
