This really pertains here recently since I’ve been fiddling with blogging engines so much. I have to say that I’ve enjoyed using WordPress more than some others (mainly Movable Type).
However, the really interesting part comes in when you consider using remote apps that tie into the database so that you don’t have to go through the web interface to post to your blog. A fine example of this was Flock that I mention eons ago. Flock is a browser, but lets you post to your blog directly also. I’ll be looking into different applications that tie into the database here in the next few weeks. Right now I’m using a trial version of ecto. I will look at MacJournal, Journaler, and Blog Thing in the future.
I’m very scared and can’t sleep at the moment because of the noises coming from my iBook. It has been running a little hot all day today, but I figured it was because of the excessive load I put it under. Just awhile ago, however, it started making some horrendous noises, but I thought it was related to the fan.
I just got through running a Verify Disk with Disk Utility, and it returned a serious error. Now I’m scared and frantically running to back everything up to a server!
Recap of news and rumors for the week, talk about switching over to WordPress for the blog portion of the site, down and dirty talk about Daylite 3 with music by Brad Paisely, “Whiskey Lullaby”.
I completely forgot to mention in the episode, but I was contacted earlier in the week by a student at Texas University who is doing AIDS documentation. To make the point short, he is trying to raise funds for a better computer, and you can check out the site here if you’d like to learn more or donate.
I signed up for the Student Developer Connection about a week ago and just submitted my application for the Student WWDC Scholarship last night. However, when I checked the mail Monday, there was a package for me from Apple!
I had totally skimmed over the part where I received a package with my membership. I got a Develop Connection shirt (very large, didn’t get asked what size either) a Tiger Install DVD (130 dollar value….amazing, even though I didn’t need it) and a DVD with all kinds of goodies on it, documentation, sample code, tutorials, etc. I think that I’ll be getting them monthly, since this was for the month of May.
Overall, a very welcome gift that I wasn’t expecting at all. However, I would have rather got to choose something besides being shipped a copy of Tiger that I won’t use.
Apple has released an update to Garageband bringing it up to 3.0.2 just the other day. Supposedly it’s going to fix some issues, so I’ll let you know if I find anything weird.
Below is a video clip from YouTube that really makes you think. Using Virtue (virtual desktop manager I reviewed a week or two ago in fact) the user is using a Mac mini with the “Cube” effect of Virtue and having Parellel’s running Red Hat linux and WIndows XP….very cool indeed.
A little delayed in coming, in this episode I talk about the usual rumors and news as well as a brief review of iMovie 6. Music this week is “Break Me Shake Me” by Savage Garden.
Apologies up front for the lack of an “enhanced” podcast this week, I noticed that it wasn’t working as expected after I’ve already published it. I tried re-exporting from Garageband with no luck, so I’m not sure why my chapters, artwork, and links are missing.
